Experience

While based in Eckler’s Barbados office, Bertha is officially a member of the Toronto property and casualty insurance practice. She joined Eckler in 2012 after spending 15+ years working for a large international actuarial consulting firm, as the Chief Actuary of a large international reinsurer and as an independent actuarial consultant.

Seen as a regional expert by insurers, Bertha is responsible for a large roster of the firm’s Caribbean P&C clients and plays an integral role in business development activities as well.

A Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, Bertha graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science, with a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science with First Class Honours. She also holds a master’s degree in Applied Statistics from Oxford University, England.

Personal

Bertha is an active community volunteer and mentor. She participates in mentorship programs with the Bermuda Big Brothers and Big Sisters; YouthNet and the Barbados Youth Business Trust. She’s also an accomplished athlete having represented Bermuda at the World Netball Championships in 2003 and completed the New York City Marathon in 2001.

Her volunteer roles include:

  • National Secretary of the Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee for the Commonwealth Caribbean
  • Former Board Member of the YWCA of Barbados; Project proposal writer/videographer and manager
