Senior Actuarial Analyst - Winnipeg

We are currently looking for an actuary or experienced actuarial analyst to work in our Winnipeg office who is talented and has a bright mind to serve our growing client base.

A senior actuarial analyst performs data activities, analysis and calculations for a group of clients to support the valuation process and ensure compliance with plan and government requirements. To fulfill this role, the senior actuarial analyst will:

  • Interpret plan documents and administrative policies
  • Examine and verify trust or insurer financial statements
  • Perform and review actuarial valuations
  • Program and develop liabilities using actuarial principles, valuation technology, and processes for a variety of valuation types (going concern, solvency, windup, accounting, conversions, projections) and a variety of actuarial methods, prepare gain and loss analysis and review and analyze individual test cases
  • Value employer pension liabilities under various plan design scenarios and for special costings
  • Collect and analyze plan experience data for input into assumption development
  • Work on special projects as needed, such as design studies and financial management analysis
  • Complete commuted value calculations, assist in the production of employee benefit statements and file annual government reports and forms
  • Maintain communication with clients regarding data; liaise with financial institutions to resolve fund related queries; respond to queries from internal clients with respect to data, benefit calculations, pension administration functions, and valuation issues
  • Provide actuarial administrators with technical guidance and peer review

Qualifications

  • University degree in Mathematics, Actuarial science, Statistics or a closely related field
  • At least 3 SOA actuarial exams
  • At least 2 years’ relevant experience in a consulting environment
  • Superior analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel combined with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and database management
  • Experience working with Proval is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to follow established standards/procedures
  • Ability to work in a team environment while managing multiple priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Strong self-motivation and initiative
  • Adaptability and flexibility
